Replacing Engine vs. Buying A New Car
Life happens. No matter what you do sometimes you get hit with an engine problem and you don’t know what to do. Whether it’s minor issues or you need a brand-new engine replacement, Dave’s Auto Center is here to help you find the best solution for your car.
COST OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT VS. COST OF A NEW CAR
The cost of replacing your engine is typically what scares people away. At first glance, the cost can make people a little wary but let’s dive deeper. According to Edmunds.com, the average monthly car payment on a new vehicle is $479. If you multiply that for 12 months, you’re looking at spending $5,748 a year. Now, contrast that cost with the average cost of a remanufactured engine is $2,250 to $4,000. The engine replacement cost is about 10-20% of the cost of a new vehicle.
However, many people plan on buying a used car rather than replacing an engine. While at face value this looks like the most cost-effective choice, it’s not always the case. Since most used cars come with their own set of problems, you don’t always know what you’re buying. So, on top of buying the car, you could also pay for maintenance and repairs on that new vehicle. This could lead to you spending more money.
At Dave’s Auto Center we put it this way, you could either spend the money fixing your nightmare and have peace of mind or you could buy someone else’s nightmare. You’re either gaining peace of mind or risking spending more money down the road.
ENGINE REPLACEMENT WARRANTY
Other than the cost-effectiveness of replacing an engine, Dave’s Auto Center also offers an industry-leading warranty on all our engine replacements. Our mechanics offer some of the best warranties on the market depending on the type of replacement you buy.
TYPES OF ENGINE REPLACEMENTS
BRAND-NEW ENGINE
Dave’s Auto Center offers brand new engines on most makes and models. While it’s the most expensive option we offer, it does offer a significant peace of mind. However, it’s also the hardest options. This is due to the supply offered by the vehicle’s manufacturer, who typically stops engine productions three years after the model year.
REMANUFACTURED ENGINES
Our most popular option, remanufactured engines are engine replacements we perform regularly. This option consists of us removing the core of the engine (consists of the cylinder head and crankshaft, along with the camshot and the connecting rod) and then re-machining the internal parts. These parts include bearings, pistons, etc. While most other shops offer this to their clients, they aren’t capable of doing this in-house. Typically, these shops get their remanufactured motors from someone else. However, Dave’s Auto Center has the capabilities, experience, and technology to do it all. We also offer a warranty on our remanufactured motors. On gas motor engines we offer a 3 year, 100k mile, nationwide warranty. On diesel engines, we offer a two-year limited warranty.
USED ENGINES
Installing used engines is something we are capable of but isn’t our best option. Although many people are enticed by used engines, it doesn’t offer the security that other options do and like the new car option, can come with an unknown set of problems. So, although we can replace used engines, we don’t stand behind them with warranties. It’s definitely the cheaper option, but it comes with high-risks.
REFURBISHED ENGINES
Another option that sets Dave’s Auto Center apart is our refurbished engines. When you take your car to the dealer or other mechanics, they can diagnose the problem but don’t have a way of fixing it other than replacing the entire engine. So, whether your problem is minor or major, the whole engine needs replacing. However, at Dave’s Auto Center, we do things differently.
We’ve invested our time and money into state-of-the-art equipment that’s capable of handling engine issues. When we refurbish your engine, we are fixing that issue and making sure the entire car performs properly. Other independent shops and dealerships can’t do this. This could possible by the cheapest option, depending on what problems we are dealing with. Although this is a cost-effective option, sometimes fixing one thing can lead to another going awry. However, it’s definitely an option worth considering.
